By using the fire magic at the first Lava level statue you can get up the ledge. A purple barrier is supposed to prevent sequence breaking, but the Ice aura (or a yellow crystal) lets you walk through unaffected. This allows you to skip Monica, get the Ice 2 tome and proceed to the next stage.
An alternative method: you can jump up on some of the rubble in the corner of the room. When you cancel your aerial melee attack animation with a frost shot you can "levitate" on top of the statue and then on top of the ledge.) With attack cancels, you can even try to jump up the ledge.
Note that you can do a similar sequence break at the statue right before Tania's boss room - charge up Ice and jump across the gap to backtrack to the first level.
