Cape Verdean Creole is spoken by 871,000 people in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde). One of the oldest extant "Creole" languages, it emerged as early as the 15th century from Portuguese and Indigenous West African languages. It is the primary mother tongue of most Cape Verdeans; although Portuguese is the official language of Cape Verde, most use Cape Verdean Creole as their language of daily communication.

This video was recorded by Alessandro Ienzi in Palermo, Italy, where he and Patrick Andrade Mendes are performers at Raizes Teatro, an international theater company that promotes the global protection of human rights, throughout arts, video and theater.
