At this year's LIS x The Conduit event, our Bachelor's degree students presented their end of year projects to an audience of faculty and friends. These projects tackled complex problems using a variety of interdisciplinary tools, requiring the use of quantitative and qualitative methods. These methods ranged from statistical analysis, coding and machine learning, to surveys and in-depth interviews.
Students select a problem they feel passionate about - often stemming from personal experience and visions of what positive change they want to see in the world - and they use LIS's unique interdisciplinary approach to unearth original insights.
This year, their projects included:
- How can Afrofuturism encourage young people in London to imagine a more empowering future?
- How does migrating as a young (18-35 year old), first generation, south Asian male migrant affect mental health in the long term?
- The role of domestic gardens in urban air quality remediation
- Evaluating the performance and usability of a GPT-based plugin for language learning
- Queer art raves and experiences of queer belonging: Riposte, a case study
- How can an understanding of accent discrimination reduce epistemic injustice and thus promote business performance?
- How can life drawing help transcend the othering of our own and other people’s bodies?
- How can we reduce barriers and increase the retention of women in STEM related fields?
- How can AI-enabled environments be used to promote critical thinking?
- Beyond the hype: understanding bias in AI and its far-reaching consequences
