Big cats will mate a few times an hour for a number of days, they need to copulate repeatedly to ovulate and conceive (induced ovulation). Females will accept any male regardless of dominance so it's possible this delayed ovulation allows time for the dominant male to displace the weaker male and propagate the strongest genes.
