Linus Torvalds has officially announced Linux Kernel 7.3 RC1, marking the beginning of the testing phase for the next major Linux kernel release.

Linux 7.3 brings major improvements including Apple M3 processor support, better Apple Silicon Thunderbolt support, Intel thermal management updates, AMD P-State improvements, new power-management features, ACPI enhancements, and updates for ARM and RISC-V systems.

Linux 7.3 RC1 is one of the larger first release candidates in terms of commits, with major AMD GPU DCN6 register updates also contributing to its size.

The final Linux Kernel 7.3 release is currently expected around October 18 or October 25, 2026, depending on whether the development cycle requires seven or eight Release Candidates.
