When Lindsay Clancy was doing physical therapy at Spaulding Rehabilitation in Massachusetts after being paralyzed from the waist down, she used a yellow exercise band -- just like the one she is said to have strangled her three kids with.
This detail came out during testimony from a defense witness on Thursday in the murder trial. Sheila Cavanaugh, a chaplain at Brigham and Women's Hospital, spoke about her visits with Clancy, stating that she loved her kids "deeply" and "carried immense grief."
Cavanaugh also testified that Clancy had told her about hearing a male voice on the night she killed her three children.
But when prosecutors discussed Cavanaugh's detailed notes from her visits with Clancy, they brought up that those discussions were not included. "And in all of these notes that detail every time you interacted with her, you never once wrote that she told you she heard a voice or what that voice said, correct?" asked Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague.
Sprague then pointed out that the chaplain's notes included Clancy's feelings about not being able to walk again and at one point describing her as being "visibly engaged, energized and hopeful than in previous visits."
Clancy has pleaded not guilty in the deaths of the children — Callan, Dawson and Cora — who were found in the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. Prosecutors say she planned the killings, while her defense argues she was suffering from bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis at the time and should not be held criminally responsible.
