A couple years back, I broke new ground in music by writing a song about a breakup. Lol, but seriously...I wrote this the day a relationship ended, in an effort to cope with everything I was feeling. It wasn't really sadness that I was experiencing, so much as a deep and strange sense of surrealness. The relationship had begun after we'd met through a chance encounter; we lived completely separate lives in different cities. Thus, with our connection being severed, I lost that entire part of my life in one sudden blink. It was as if she'd been this wondrous tide that had washed over my life, changing it in so many ways - but now that tide was receding. I was sitting there on the shore just as I'd been before she came, almost as if it had never happened at all. And as sharp as the pain was, this feeling carried an undercurrent of wonder that made even the deepest darkness profoundly beautiful.
