Lightning Talk: Promote Modern C++ Usage With Coding Questions Part 2 - Zhenchao Lin - CppCon 2025

This lightning talk will explore how companies can use coding contests to encourage the adoption of modern C++ language features and libraries. We'll discuss how the Coding Questions Working Group in Bloomberg's C++ Guild uses this approach to educate and train the firm's engineers to use new features in the C++ standard.
In part 1, we discuss the need for spaces to safely practice and explore modern C++ features. We also explore how to find inspiration to create your own coding quiz questions!
In part 2, we showcase some of our past questions and submitted solutions. We also reflect on the feedback from participants to demonstrate the impact we've had on our engineers.

Zhenchao Lin
Zhenchao Lin is a software engineer at Bloomberg, where he works on real-time market data systems in APAC. He leads a working group focused on improving technical interviews and organizes annual internal C++ coding competitions. Zhenchao also supports APAC hiring and internal mobility initiatives.
