Don't miss out! Join us at our next KubeCon + CloudNativeCon events in Shanghai, China (8-9 September, 2026) and Salt Lake City, United States (Nov 9–12, 2026). Connect with our current graduated, incubating, and sandbox projects as the community gathers to further the education and advancement of cloud native computing. Learn more at kubecon.io
⚡Lightning Talk: Learning Kubernetes From Logs: Building a Foundation for Future Troubleshooting - Kakeru Ishii, Google
A Deployment creates a ReplicaSet, which creates Pods, and eventually, the kubelet and containerd execute them. While this Kubernetes lifecycle is fundamental, understanding the theory differs greatly from observing it in practice. Few have witnessed these component interactions firsthand.
In this session, attendees will explore the behavior of basic resources and controllers from a logging perspective. The presentation will trace these behaviors using logs—from audit logs and kube-controller-manager logs, down to containerd logs. By focusing on fundamental resources like Deployments and Services, observing them through logs will significantly deepen participants' understanding of how Kubernetes operates under the hood.
Drawing on years of experience supporting Google Kubernetes Engine, the speaker will share foundational knowledge applicable to troubleshooting clusters on any provider. Attendees will leave knowing exactly where to start looking to prepare for their next incident.
