This program is designed for youth with disabilities who have never had an aquatic experience. Through individualized coaching, water safety techniques, and lots of games, these children become more comfortable in and around the water.
This program is a program aims to create a more positive and inclusive playground experience for all. We pair children with disabilities alongside a neurotypical peer. We begin each day with an ice breaker or getting to know you physical activity style game, followed by a small group game where they work with others to complete a task, finishing with a group game where the entire group focuses on one common goal.
The unique aspect of this program is that we have implemented a program with a curriculum that is going to be packaged and delivered as professional development to teachers, teachers assistant and recess supervisors. The hope is that this program is the beginning of a much bigger task in creating positive experiences for children with and without disabilities during recess.
