In celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the beloved cast album, Ghostlight Records presents the remixed and remastered Next to Normal (Original Broadway Cast Recording) [15th Anniversary Edition] cast album.
When the opportunity arose to re-release Next to Normal for this 15th anniversary, composer and album producer Tom Kitt knew he had the opportunity to transform the album’s listening experience. Returning to the recording session multi-tracks, the producer was able to revisit the music, enhancing several elements, to remix and remaster it to the sound he always imagined in his head. Due to these efforts, listening to the music is like hearing it for the first time!

About LOVE IN HATE NATION: A turbulent rock romance by Joe Iconis, composer and lyricist of the worldwide sensation Be More Chill! Set in a 1960s Juvie Hall, Love in Hate Nation tells the story of young people caught between eras of a changing America. Sixteen-year old Susannah Son is carted off to the National Reformatory for Girls to get her head put on straight. There she meets the aggressively incorrigible Sheila Nail, and a relationship forms which leads to an all-out “revolution in the institution” as they attempt to break out of the boxes society has created around them. “The Liz Swados Project” is Swados’s legacy album - songs from 10 of her works for the stage sung by some of the most influential performers and composers in theater today. In the words of the late Michael Friedman, who studied under Swados, “Liz is in the DNA of my work.” You can hear her influence in the work of Shaina Taub, Grace McLean, Taylor Mac, Dave Malloy and the Bengsons, all of whom will pay tribute to her in their recordings of her songs. Works featured will range from her Broadway hit Runaways (1978), about the lives of children who run away from home and live on the city streets, to her little-known masterpiece The Beautiful Lady (1984), a deeply felt meditation on the triumph and catastrophe of the Russian avant-garde. Also featured on recordings will be some of the most exciting musical theater performers of today: Amber Gray, Stephanie Hsu, Damon Daunno, Starr Busby, Jo Lampert and Sophia Ann Caruso, among others.
A visionary artist, Swados was ahead of her time. This album gives her the credit she rightly deserves: as a composer, a lyricist, a teacher, a trailblazer. The change that she led is now coming into its own.
