The light L and the final L are made in completely different ways, and most learners have never been shown the difference.
With the light L, the tip of your tongue presses and releases at the ridge behind your top front teeth. With the final L, it presses and holds while the back of your tongue pulls away from the roof of your mouth, creating space like you are holding a small ball back there.
Try saying apple slowly and notice the shift between the two L sounds.
