The Vanishing of Harry Pace is a miniseries from Radiolab about the phenomenal but forgotten man who changed the American music scene. It's a story about betrayal, family, hidden identities and a time like no other.
In 1923, Harry Pace's Black Swan Records stamped "Lift Every Voice and Sing" onto a record for the first time in history, and now it lives at the National Recording Registry. Known as the Black national anthem, how does one song weave its way through multiple generations and everybody feels like it’s theirs?
In the sixth and final episode of The Vanishing of Harry Pace, we discover that the lasting power of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" exists in its creation story.

Based on the book “Black Swan Blues: the Hard Rise and Brutal Fall of America’s First Black Owned Record Label” by Paul Slade. The series features interviews with Pace's descendants and more than 40 musicians, historians, writers and musicologists, all of whom grapple with Pace’s enduring legacy.
