In this chapter, a physicist from Uruguay tells us about the vision of Mars that science fiction and comics have conveyed to us and wonders whether mankind is ready to coexist with other types of life, such as might be found on a planet like Mars. In order to research the likelihood of life on Mars, NASA has carried out experiments in the Atacama Desert, which we shall visit, since this is the most similar place on Earth to the red planet. We will become acquainted with the Curiosity, a robot sent to Mars, and meet a Colombian astronaut who has trained to travel to the red planet. Finally, we shall visit a factory of rockets with state-of-the-art technology, which may soon take us to Mars.
