The BBC has seen first-hand the desperate conditions civilians in Sudan are enduring as the civil war that has lasted more than 500 days shows no signs of ending. Millions have been displaced and aid agencies are warning the hunger crisis is of historic proportions. 

BBC World Service Senior Correspondent Nawal Al-Maghafi has gained rare access to the city of Port Sudan and a key border area in neighbouring Chad where refugees are still flowing out as aid agencies desperately try to get aid in.
