Another track in my Generative Ambient series, this time back to the Desert Ambient (micro?) genre!
My entire generative series is definitely a Frank Herbert's Dune inspired series. This time from dreaming on Caladan back to Arrakis, and the secrets buried in the southern Sietches - Liet's Legacy, the second most valuable thing on Arrakis... water!
Process notes:
For this video, I built on my Blender skills - enough to make the cave and the underground lake for the music video. I created both from scratch in blender, with some additional lighting and volumetrics for atmosphere.
I made the track in Ableton Live, making heavy use of instruments from Arturia, Native Instruments, and Eventide's ambient reveb Blackhole.
The generative element started with a core note progression that passed through a couple of home-made generative devices to drive several channels. I added in a Max4Live device to generate a Euclidean polymeter which then passed through a random gate on several channels to create periodic sounds.
I am pleased with the end result, and this time I added a secondary sequence that the generators switched between, where the people came closer, though that ended up not being so noticeably different. I will continue to develop the generative template into more sophisticated ways - if you have suggestions, let me know.
Music created in Ableton Live 11, with plugins from:
- Arturia (V Collection and FX Collection)
- Native Instruments (Komplete)
- Heavyocity
- Eventide Blackhole
- Scaler 2
- Cthulhu
Video created with:
- DaVinci Resolve 17
- With help from Patrick Stirling's wonderful Proto V2 plugin (@PatrickStirling)
- Blender, for the cave, underground lake and waves
- Affinity Photo for the Artifonica device/logo
Keywords:
Music for meditation, chill, chillout, relax, unwind, sleep, dreams, dreaming, reading (especially the Dune series), desert, cave, underground, ethnic, middle east, water, waves, nature, soundscape, science fiction, sci-fi, rpg, background, mood, ambience, soundscape
