Lie Groups were introduced by the Norwegian mathematician Sophus Lie in the 19th Century and they have diverse applications from analysis to geometry to physics. This lecture, the first of two we are showing from Jason Lotay's fourth year undergraduate course, introduces Lie Groups with a focus on examples.

All first and second year lectures are followed by tutorials where students meet their tutor in pairs to go through the lecture and associated problem sheet and to talk and think more about the maths. Third and fourth year lectures are followed by classes.
