This is #9, PART ONE, of a series in which I read correspondence between me and people who have questions, comments, or--more often--misconceptions about asexuality.
This one is a request from an asexual wanting some ideas and techniques on how to talk with family members about asexuality. This can be a delicate subject because friends and family who care do not always approach the issue in a sensitive fashion, and some will even go as far as to impose intervention or insist on therapy. The first part of this video addresses some assumptions with which they may be coming to the discussion, as well as some civilized and "nice" ways to address their concerns and comments. I get into some comebacks and "nastier" responses for the out-and-out attacks in the next video, hoping that one of these techniques will give our loved ones the wake-up call they need to respect us.
