Getting older is tough. Having physical limitations is tough. And being left alone at night to deal with both is extra tough.
Still, Bernard Thorne is a strong old coot, and he's fine on his own. But on this particular night, where his whole family is out doing their own things, something calls to him from the attic. Something that reminds him of all his life's highs and lows. Something he just HAS to go see.
If only he could get just one more painkiller so he could find the strength to go up there.
If only every shadow didn't seem to remind him of his dark past...
If only he weren't in a wheelchair.
