Stress:
The force acting across a unit area in a solid material in resisting the separation, compacting, or sliding that tends to be induced by application of forces.
The use of strain gages to measure the strain and calculate the induced stress has been long recognized as a way to predict the long term performance of a product under stress.
In this iLearn video, Darryl explains what is stress.
