sonic the hedgehog megamix (or just "sonic megamix) is a seminal rom hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 for the genesis/mega drive that replaces the level designs, some of the level graphics, and all of the music, on top of adding new playable characters. its development dates back to the early 00s, making it one of the earliest major-overhaul sonic rom hacks.
in this playthrough, we play the final "stable" release of sonic megamix, version 3.0, also the final release of the mega drive/genesis iteration of the game. this version features music adapted from other genesis games, zone visuals that still reuse graphics from base sonic 1, and 3 acts per zone. we also play the game as mighty the armadillo, meaning we approach the game from a more base-sonic-gameplay perspective compared to sonic & shadow with their homing attack and light speed dash.
