sonic advance 2 is the second sonic the hedgehog game released for the game boy advance and one of the most divisive within sonic fan spaces thanks to its new mechanics, shifted level design practices, and bouts of punishing difficulty. it is, in some ways, a precursor to the later sonic rush titles and, subsequently, sonic unleashed and its successors, so it certainly has its place in the sonic games' design history.
in spite of its reputation, i quite like sonic advance 2—but it did take me many years and a recent revisit for me to feel that way. hopefully in the span of this playthrough i can communicate why it's settled as a favorite of mine.
