At the end of the last chapter, Ashley succumbed to the parasite's control long enough to try and stab Leon. This freaked her out and she ran away. I'm actually okay with that. What we have here is the opportunity for the game to compensate for the missing component that was keeping Ashley safe, and they have a couple ways to make me wish I'd never come here.
