I've had this mindset for a while ever since I watched TV Sins' Chocolate with Nuts video. So, here's the thing. Nitpick channels are not at all a new thing, and I don't consider myself unique for doing Let's Nitpick. In fact, it's pretty much just CinemaSins in a different flavor. That's the problem. After I watched their Chocolate with Nuts video, I saw the top comment at the time, saying something along the lines of blaming SpongeBob for weirdness and stupidity in kids today. Whether that comment was influenced by CinemaSins' motif of negativity or not, it got me thinking: I don't want people thinking Let's Nitpick as a legitimate review or as something constantly negative, I want people to have fun and laugh with it.
Just like CinemaSins, I had an arbitrary point system where I added a point for every joke I made or for every serious critique I had. There was no distinguishing what was serious or what was silly. Superstar Saga Episode 1, the "eyeballs can't do that" joke. Was that a stupid joke or was that a jerky critique?
That's the thing. I originally made LNP to be styled as an unofficial VideoGameSins, where I pick apart every single aspect I can find, not to have fun, but to make fun. That's why I finally unsubscribed to CinemaSins: they style themselves as a comedy series but left out the important thing: comedy. Pointing out that the hands on a clock drastically changed from one camera angle to the next isn't funny, nor is it a valid critique. It's a jerky, nitpicky comment pointing out minor flaws that does nothing but pad the run-time. I don't want Let's Nitpick to be seen like that. I don't want to be funny by pointing out flaws, I want to be funny by making jokes. It's a difference as simple as "Only a meteorite if it already landed" from Superstar Saga Episode 1, and "We don't need to know what Max does in his spare time" from Superstar Saga Episode 6. If you want to point out minor things, why not get a laugh out it too? Otherwise, you seem like a stoic, unforgiving I-Am-Very-Smart.
Which is why I am changing up the style of Let's Nitpick. I am not hiding the fact that this is a comedy/entertainment series, and I am not putting the disguise of "I'm reviewing the game and making every little thing about it a reason why it's bad." No. This is not "Everything Wrong With The Wind Waker," this is "Let's Have Fun With The Wind Waker." If I have any valid critiques or praise, that's what the two new point counters are for. Otherwise, it's gonna be all jokes. No sins, no points, jokes.
Unrelated, I'm also gonna try and start making some more wholesome jokes to spread some positivity. Making people smile is nice, but making people smile on the inside is even nicer.
