A lot has changed since William Colby led the Sierra Club’s first outing into Yosemite 125 years ago. Our lives look different. Our world looks different. But one thing hasn’t changed: our belief that when people experience nature firsthand, they are more likely to care for it and fight to protect it. The 125-year milestone of Sierra Club Outings isn't a finish line; it’s proof that sustained, collective action works.
For more than 135 years, the Sierra Club has been safeguarding wild places, fighting for clean energy, and defending community health through grassroots activism, public education, lobbying, and legal action. Spanning 64 chapters nationwide, we know we are always stronger together.
The past proves what we can accomplish. Now, it’s time to build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
