A silent killer is ravaging lawns in Palm Beach County. No chemical or practice can prevent or cure this fatal disease of Floratam St. Augustinegrass, the most common type of lawn in our county. Already residents and community associations have spent millions of dollars in sod replacements. To help residents cope, Palm Beach County Cooperative Extension will host a free webinar on lethal viral necrosis on Tuesday, January 22, 2022 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
Drs. Phil Harmon, Romina-Gazis-Seregina, Kevin Kenworthy and Bryan Unruh from the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (UF/IFAS) will discuss how to identify and sample for the disease, available sod replacements, lawn renovation techniques and post-installation care. Laurie Albrecht and Henry Mayer, UF/IFAS Extension Agents in Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties, respectively, will discuss the disease’s prevalence and its impacts in south Florida. The speakers will answer questions from the public.
