El Filibusterismo (+Noli Me Tangere) are novels by Jose Rizal who is a Philippine National hero for inspiring the filipinos to rebel against the spanish colonizers through these two novels.

Noli me Tangere is about Crisostomo Ibarra who is an eager young adult who came back to the Philippines after studying in Europe and hopes to improve thr country and help it gain independence. But he faces problems with the Spanish Colonial government and the Catholic Church. He then also reunites with his childhood love Maria Clara. By the end of Noli Me he becomes a criminal on the run from the PH Police.

El Filibusterismo is meant to be an official sequel. With Crisostomo, now under the new alias Simoun returns to the Philippines to set things straight. He plots to start a revolution and rescue his love Maria Clara. But as he recieves the news that she had passed away while he was gone, his grief drove him to create his biggest stunt yet. A lamp with gunpowder that intends to enter the house of a newly wed couple who invited government officials to their wedding reception, just to send a message.
