We usually think of geology when it comes to the Grand Canyon. Indeed, it has one of most fascinating geologies in the world.
But it is a National Park, a uniquely American idea for preserving natural areas for their wonder and ecological diversity, and for the enjoyment of the general public. Such a model can possibly be used on the Moon.
However, the history of the Grand Canyon as depicted today ignores the treatment of Native Americans there, including the forced displacement of Havasupai as late as 1928. Mote and Salman talk about the geology, history and politics of Grand Canyon, as well as Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley.
