Efficiency
Ok. Let’s talk about efficiency.
About achieving the best quality in the least amount of time.
For that, I want to talk about a concept introduced in human kind in the 1900s by Henry Ford.
He was always looking to increase more efficiency and lower costs.
The way this worked was, that employees would assemble one single part of the vehicle, and other people would assemble another part.
For example, one group of people will assemble tires, and another the wheels, and after all the parts are ready, then they assemble the whole car.
Nice.
That’s the assembly line, and after practicing a bit, I found out that applying that same concept to lower time costs, and increasing the efficiency, I can deliver my animation quickly and maintaining high quality.
So how does this concept apply in the animations for the lessons of your course?
I mean, maybe your are taking this course just to know how to do those animation, if that’s the case, then just skip the pre production lessons, because these are aimed to students who are building a course on Udemy, or a series of videos for a webpage.
What we will do is this…
All the videos have introductions and ending slates, they all need images, illustrations and sound.
So, what we do is… we get all the sound, images, illustrations and text. This will be the material to create our courses.
After we have that, we will take care of creating all the empty compositions inside after effects, which will have all the contents later.
Then we will create and assemble all the intros for every lesson, then all the ending slates, and after all of that is done…
We will add the correct timings in which we want the text and images to appear.
Using a layer with markers.
Those markers are created by hearing the lesson by the instructor.
And after all of that, we will create and assemble all the animations for all the lessons.
You will see, after mastering this, you will be able to create series of about 10 or more videos in no time, with the least number of mistakes, because on each pass, you have a chance to correct any errors or typos you do on your animation.
All of this will be accomplished using a transcript of the audio, and a spread sheet to keep things organized.
I will be using Microsoft Excel for this. The desktop version.
You can use the free online version, or use google spread sheets online, which is also free.
