Deconstruct the sonics behind one of Atlanta’s most talented rap exports. Leslie Brathwaite breaks down the mix of ‘Glory’ from JID’s Grammy-nominated album ‘God Does Like Ugly’, demonstrating how he tackles fast-flowing vocals, heavy low-end, and bombastic beat switches.

Leslie begins by studying the original reference mix, identifying the key areas to address. He then works through the Pro Tools session, applying his signature processing to vocals, samples, drums and low-end. When combined with disciplined gain staging and careful balance, these techniques are all it takes to transform a track into a radio-ready production.

Later in the session, Leslie turns his attention to the mix bus. He demonstrates how to find your sonic signature and how to add cohesion, impact, and energy to your mixes. Watch him experiment with different processing tools and learn how he sculpts his unique sound using broadband EQ, saturation, and limiting.
