I’m a lesbian woman. But lesbians aren’t inherently women. Lesbianism has always been an ancestral act of rebellion against rules we were handed. If I chose he/him pronouns tomorrow I’d still be a lesbian. Why? Because fuck you, that’s why.
If the statement “lesbians aren’t women” makes you uncomfortable, take a breath. Your lesbianism can be wuh luh wuh, and mine can be something else. Nothing true about you is being erased, because definitions can’t protect us. But solidarity can.
I’m not scared we’ll lose meaning, I’m scared we’ll forget that we never needed permission.
