You know I love digging into these great books about jazz music, etc., and I have another one I want to recommend: LeRoi Jones's (Amiri Baraka) "Blues People." This one is a must-read for anyone interested in any of the musics that has originated in the US whether it be jazz, rock, pop, R&B, and, of course, the various blues forms. "Black Music," on the other hand, is a good read if you can overlook the "vitriol" and "hatred" that LeRoi peppers his articles with towards all non-black people.
