Remember watching this match as though it were yesterday, beamed live to Australia at 5:18 am on September 12, 1982, a Sunday LOL. McEnroe's U.S. Open winning streak of 26 matches came to a decisive end due to Lendl's new wave of power tennis. Back then, Lendl pretty much owned McEnroe and had not lost to the left hander since 1980 U.S. Open. One reason could be that John was using a wood racquet and in 1983 when he switched to the Dunlop Max 200G graphite his fortunes changed where he had defeated Lendl three times that year. Outstanding 14 year rivalry.
