I did this test at Realtime worlds back in 2009 to see how many sprites I could draw on modern hardware. This is 50,000 Lemmings running at about 400FPS on my (now 6 year old) PC - on a single thread.

I did manage to get 1,000,000 sprites on a GeForce 9800 GTX (I think it was) at 17fps. This was 12 years ago now, so you could more than double that number I suspect.

Just shows what a custom 2D engine could do if you push things.... I used this as the basis of the 3D sprites I did later (see my other videos)

Now sure why the capture is so blurry but.....
