Lei Ānuenue, Episode 58: Detours: A decolonial guide to Hawai‘i

The Detours project takes the “guidebook” genre and deliberately works to pervert it in order to interrupt tourism’s hold on Hawai‘i. This decolonial guide includes essays, personal reflections, artwork, and maps created by activists, artists, academics, and communities working to restore ea (the breath and sovereignty of the lāhui, ʻāina, and its people). This presentation will describe the project and the political and intellectual foundations upon which it is based, the work and process of curating the book, and the vision and ethical responsibilities that guide it. We also hope to
inspire teachers, students, and activists working to restore ea in their classrooms, dorm rooms, and on the street.
