The Balrog - A Demon of the Ancient World
As the Fellowship of the Ring passed through the Mines of Moria, a Balrog known as Durin’s Bane was awoken and pursed the company. During the ensuing chase, Gandalf the Grey fought the beast to the peaks of the Misty Mountains where he struck it down.
Where to even start when building a Balrog? That took me a bit to figure out, but I’m so proud of how it came out. The photos cannot capture the pure presence it has in real life. Exposure issues with the white snow and black background and Balrog were the least of my issues. The prompt for this challenge in the Middle Earth Lego Olympics was “1v1 duels”. I knew I had to build something striking and impressive and this scene certainly fit the bill. I chose the less iconic snow portion of the battle to have more visual impact than the Mines of Moria. Finishing this beast in only four or five days was a mad rush and I loved it! Now I’m curious- how would YOU build a Balrog?
