The Legion Go series of handhelds is an alternative to the Steam Deck, but it isn't a cheap one. That's only getting more true now. Compared to last year at launch, both the Legion Go 2 and the Legion Go S retail prices at Best Buy have risen dramatically, including the variant that comes with SteamOS installed.
At the bottom end, the SteamOS Legion Go S has jumped from $600 at launch to $650, a modest bump considering the crazy rise in prices for RAM and storage. The Windows version with a Z1 Extreme processor started at $850, now it's $980. The biggest jump is for the Legion Go 2 with the latest Ryzen Z2 Extreme package: Starting at an already-high $1350, it's now an even $2000.
It's worth noting that the Steam Deck hasn't risen in price, though the cheapest model has gone out of production. But that doesn't really matter, because here in the US all Steam Decks have been out of stock on Valve's store for almost two months. Interestingly, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally is still going for the same prices it launched at last year, so maybe they aren't flying off the shelves. If you were waffling between a Legion and an Ally, the latter might look a lot more appealing if you're on a budget right now.
