This is the first part of our conversation with Iain McGilchrist. Iain is a psychiatrist and author of "The Master and his Emissary". In this episode we talk about the stifling of political and academic discourse, the right and left hemispheres of the brain, and Iain's theory that the left hemisphere has come to dominate in our times, privileging fragmentation, linearity and explicitness over holism, inter-connectivity and implicitness. We discuss how many of our current societal problems may result from this left hemisphere dominance, as we neglect all that is not immediately in front of us.
