Lee discusses how people make decisions about others based on the way that they talk - and how social meanings of things being said may give us more information about the person speaking.

Lee gave a talk at Skepticon 2019 titled 'So you've corrected someone's grammar on the internet...'

Bio: I’m a doctoral candidate in Linguistics at Monash University. I also teach linguistics and academic skills at Monash.

My research looks at variation in Australian English and the social meanings that speakers attach to this variation. I’m interested in the social dimensions of region, socioeconomic status, and gender, how these dimensions intersect, and how they are reflected and constructed in interaction.

I love to teach. I’ve been teaching linguistics since 2014, from introductory units through to Masters-level classes in sociolinguistics and research methods.

As a Learning Skills Adviser, I help students with academic skills such as critical thinking, academic writing, and giving oral presentations. I also create e-resources and teach classes in academic skills.

In my spare time, I bake things and feed them to people.
