The pair, who has produced work from the Dakotas to Australia, created the 2013 New Albany Public Art Project installation, "The Stage that New Albany Built" at Riverview Towers at Scribner and Elm Streets in New Albany. Hailing from Jackson, Tennessee Lee and Betty maintain two studios that produce large-scale architectural sculptures as well as figurative, narrative monoliths in mixed media, stone, timber, wood, clay, and 24K gold. In 2005 they combined their four earned degrees and 30 years of experience of creating public sculpture to form Benson Sculpture LLC. Over the years their blend of talents and skills have allowed them to build the family business into a formidable sculpture enterprise. Today, Benson Sculpture has a symbiotic relationship with Habitat for Humanity (and it's international counterpart) to donate materials used in their temporary sculptures to be recycled into homes for low-income families. And, the public is invited to an extra chance to learn about Lee and Betty Benson's experiences developing sculptural installations during a talk on Friday, June 21 from 6-7 pm at the Carnegie Center for Art & History.
