Active camera II cutscenes which don't ruin your player state (like angry cucco cutscene) can be used to interrupt cutscene items. This is likely due to active camera II preventing cutscene items from being used at all. There are likely other player states or animations which can be used to interrupt the cutscene. You can also OI onto the switch instead of ESS quickshield.
