Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the world, primarily due to the addictive nature of nicotine. In this lecture I discuss the psychological and physiological effects of nicotine use, with a focus on treating nicotine addiction and supporting nicotine abstinence. Finally, I discuss controversies surrounding vaping and teen use of nicotine.
