"What is happening is dangerous because it is a violation of international laws and treaties. This is a war crime there's no doubt about it. As for the argument that some of these cars or hospitals had weapons or so on. I mean, these are false excuses and old arguments and lies. We have heard this before in Gaza and now it is repeated again. The media can have a look at these centres and see if there is any evidence of this in front of everyone. It is unfair to target, not only unarmed people, but also others trying to pull out wounded people. I reiterate that the international laws are clear in protecting those paramedics. Who gave Israel the right to be the judge and the executioner at the same time."

STORYLINE:
Lebanon's health minister on Thursday accused Israel of violating international law by targeting health workers in its bombing campaign.

"This is a war crime there's no doubt about it," Firas Abiad told journalists in Beirut.

It comes after an overnight Israeli strike on an apartment building in Beirut hit a Hezbollah health center and killed seven civilian first responders affiliated with the group and after a separate strike wounded Red Cross paramedics evacuating wounded people in southern Lebanon.

"The argument that some cars or hospitals had weapons or something else, these are old false arguments and lies we heard before in Gaza," Abiad said.

Israel has been pounding areas in Lebanon where the Hezbollah militant group has a strong presence since late September and began a ground incursion into the country on Tuesday.

The Israeli military said eight soldiers have died in the conflict in southern Lebanon.

The health minister said 1,974 people were killed, including 127 children and 261 women, with 9,384 others wounded since the beginning of latest round of escalation.

Israel and Hezbollah have traded fire across the Lebanon border almost daily since the day after Hamas’ cross-border attack on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 Israelis and took 250 others hostage.

Israel declared war on the militant group in the Gaza Strip in response. More than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in the territory, and just over half the dead have been women and children, according to local health officials.
