Burning some brush in the Butte County Foothills, in Northern California. We were doing this to reduce fuel loading in an area which burned in 2018, and also, to create some young brush sprouts for wildlife to eat. Elk have been moving into this area, and young brush is more edible than older brush, for wildlife.
Another reason we were doing this was to learn how to burn brush. Most of the burning we have been doing in Butte County has been in the timber and grasslands. We are lucky here to have a willing landowner who also owns heavy equipment, and is generous with his time, employees, and resources.
Thanks to Cal Fire Butte Unit for sending us an engine with three people for the day, and for the trust to let us lead their people on burn day.
