The Snake – The Perfect Introduction to Freestyle Slalom Skating
The Snake is one of the most important and well-known foundation tricks in inline freestyle slalom skating. At first glance, it looks simple and easy to learn, but behind the smooth movement lie numerous technical details that are crucial for proper execution.
Anyone who learns the Snake correctly from the beginning creates an excellent foundation for many other slalom tricks while simultaneously developing a better sense of balance, edge control, and body posture. This is exactly why the Snake is one of the first exercises practiced by almost every freestyle skater.
The Snake teaches essential fundamentals that are indispensable for freestyle slalom skating as a whole. Through the repeated carving movements, you learn to shift your body weight in a controlled manner and steer your skates with precision.
At the same time, the exercise improves:
► Agility and mobility
► Balance and body control
► Skate edge control
► Coordination between the upper and lower body
► Sense of rhythm and flow of movement
These skills form the foundation for numerous beginner, intermediate, and advanced tricks in the slalom course.
