Insult fencing is a beloved part of Monkey Island. But are provocations a thing in Real sword fighting? Turns out, yes... kinda — but not the way you think... 😁🙈
Let's return to Monkey Island!
Tactics for Bolognese Fencing!
Hitting your opponents while not getting hit seems like an easy task... until you know, it's not. Provocations in Italian Swordplay help us setting our opponent up and control the fight with Invitations, Feints and well prepared Attacks. What kind of fencer are you? Do you always go for a direct attack or do you feint until even you yourself don't know what is real anymore? ;-D
While I demonstrate with a single handed sword, these concepts apply to all martial arts. So don't hesitate to use this for longsword, sword & buckler, rapier, saber etc. and have fun!
00:00 Why do we need Provocations?
01:51 Invitations
02:53 Feints
06:25 Preparing your direct Attacks
P.S.: I think Monkey Island was the first game that showed me how cool and fun fencing is. It uses another kind of provocation, that I didn’t mention here... the art of insult fencing ;-D

![Sword Maintenance - Cleaning a Malleus 1432 Early Sidesword [4k - 60fps - ASMR]
Best with Headphones :) First, disassemble the sword if possible. Glide with your finger along the edge to find burrs and nicks. Then, use the file to remove them by gently pushing forward along the edge in continuous movements. Do this on both edges on all four sides. Next, use a drop of oil on the rough sanding sponge, then stroke the blade along its length in uninterrupted motions. Always stay parallel to the edges. Repeat this with the medium sponge after cleaning the blade with a rack. For a nicer polish, use the fine sponge together with oil to gently move along the flats and edges of the blade, always in direction of the grain. Clean it again with a fresh oiled towel. Depending on the surface finish on the hilt parts, polish them carefully with a fine grain sponge and oil, and clean then with the rack. In my case, i blued the parts, thus just re-oiling is mostly enough. Reassemble the sword, and you are finished.
Martial list:
Medium-fine metal file
Abrasive sponges (fine/medium/rough)
Oil (here Ballistol)
Some cloths/paper towles
Wrench/allen key (If you can dismantle your sword)
Gloves
Sword:
Malleus Martials 1432 Early Sidesword (HEMA custom swords: replica version)
