Would you believe me if I said I always knew leagues 3 would be lack luster?

You might not believe it after watching videos of me being excited about it in the months leading up to it,
but yeah. I knew.

As soon as I heard the "gimmick" of this league was unlocking skills, I had doubts. Then, I heard
early on in the design plans that players would be able to to unlock every skill by the end. And then,
I knew.

A skill lock gimmick almost sounds like a good idea, but then if you take more than one minute to consider things,
you realize mostly all that happens is players find a piece of content that they can do, and stay there
until it's done. It's like playing a 99 one at time account, an OLAAT snowflake.

Leagues 3 would be that way... that is, if we were truly restricted.

One of the biggest complaints about leagues 3 is that the early game feels extremely locked down.
that's kind of funny to hear because you don't exactly see people setting themselves up for huge grinds and
focusing on just one skill at a time. When you feel like unlocking your next skill, you can.

That's my experience anyway, and before you assume I'm a full time streamer, I'm not. I have a job, a wife,
a daughter. I've had to take a few days off of leagues already.

The task list makes me feel like I'm surrounded by opportunity all the time. Overall I'd say I'm drowning in renown,
but the moments that I wasn't, those were the times where leagues 3 was acting like a league.

Let me explain why.

Leagues is a game mode inspired by snowflake ironmen. The mark of a snowflake that makes them appealing to play or watch is and
has always been the restrictions. Leagues needs to be restrictive in order to create memorable moments and problems that require
creativity to overcome.

So leagues 3 was doomed from the start. Jagex saw the complaints from the preivous two leagues. Twisted league was famous for
bottlenecks. Ploughs, mess hall, sara wizards. Trailblazer allowed the absolute troll option of choosing the fairy's flight relic.
hilarious, good one team. We're going to have none of that in leagues 3.

The origin of hot swappable fragments is someone trying to keep players from making mistakes.

So I saw this whole concept of "it's just fast ironman mode" coming. I prepared myself for it. This is why I welcomed a
restrictive renown system. It's the only restrictive part of leagues 3, and after community complaints, we have lost it.

It's entirely gone. Starting on Wednesday, feel free to skip absolutely any quest pack, unlock any boss, unlock the rest of your skills
without a second thought. The renown system is dead and all the remains is watching a tedious animation every time you unlock something.

jagex decided to step in to make some changes to bring back the players from group 1 into leagues. Well, that's not going to save it.
And now the group that was originally enjoying leagues now has to play a watered down version of it. Not to mention the dragon cup
contenders who had made strategic decisions on their time allocation that have suddenly become VERY bad choices.

So yeah. I'm the leagues guy. I'm still playing. I still love leagues 3, despite this (ui overlay)
But I am disappointed that the opinion of people who quit leagues led jagex to absolutely trash the original renown system.
It wasn't perfect, but it was the only thing this league had.

I didn't address every complaint that people have raised about leagues thus far, but I do bring this up because I haven't heard
anyone say this other than me yet.

I keep hearing people talking about the needless complexity of the fragment system. And it really confuses me. I had been thinking
about this fragment system for a while before leagues started, and I gotta say, I wish it was actually complicated. Because
in my experience, if you're going to train fishing, you should equip your fishing fragments. If you're going to fight things with
magic, you should equip your magic fragments. It really doesn't get deeper than that. The only "quote unquote" complexity
in the fragment system is the legitimately frustrating UI in the fragment menu. I find myself skipping using beneficial fragments
sometimes because I don't want to deal with it.

I think Jagex tried a little too hard. The amount of time that had to go into creating a full fragment system with many different
powers is significant. I believe that the spirit of leagues could be captured more potently and simply in other ways. But I could
talk about that some other time.

I'm gonna be straight up with you, I'm not really looking forward to reading the comments on this video.

Anyway, if you're still playing leagues I'll see you out there, if you quit leagues, I'm going to take your ranks.
