Most of us know the shame, guilt, condemnation, and fear that descends upon us after giving in to sin. Whether it's a consistent battle or a one time fall, our impulse is to run as far as we can from God and others. We hope that hiding will somehow fix things. But it never does.
What a comfort to know that God sees our sins, knows our fears, and invites us to run TO him, not AWAY from him. Paul reminds us in his letter to the Romans that, “God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance.” (Romans 2:4) That kindness was shown in giving up his only Son to be our substitute on the cross. Jesus himself bled and died for us, so we could not only be forgiven but clothed in his righteousness. In Christ, we don't approach God as a stern judge, but as a loving Father. How can we not want to turn from our sin and live for his glory Because even when we fall, he is never far.
