In today’s video, I’m placing two editions of Le Véritable Tarot de Marseille side by side, both rooted in the work of Kris Hadar, yet released almost 20 years apart.
This isn’t about Type I and Type II traditions, but rather a close look at how the same deck evolves over time. I’ll be focusing on the differences in production quality, card stock, and colour saturation, exploring how those changes impact not just the look of the deck, but the overall feel when working with it.
From the softer, more aged tones of the earlier edition to the brighter, more standardised finish of the later mass-market version, both from Éditions de Mortagne, it’s fascinating to see how presentation alone can shift our connection to the cards.
