These braids are a wonderful way to decorate a hat, a cuff of a mitten or a cuff of a sweater. I have seen also on the yoke sweaters. All are performed by purling with the yarn in front of the work, which sound perfect for the Portuguese Style of knitting! However, because we bring the yarn over or under each other according to the direction of the twist, they are not possible to be knit using the
Portuguese Method. Here you are going to see how to make these brades and why.

Pattern
Knit one round alternating color A and color B. For a braid with a slant to the
RIGHT, bring color A UNDER color B every time you purl a stitch. If you want the braid to slant to the LEFT, you are going to alternate the colors OVER each other.

Note: both colors are going to twist around each other. To manage this twist, I pull a long amount of yarn from the skeins. On the next round, they will untwist.
